Valentine’s Day

Je t’aime, Te quiero, Ti amo, are three out of the many ways to say ‘I love you’. Valentine’s Day has always been my all-time favorite event celebrated at ACS Jakarta and I’m sure many students feel the same way too. There’s just something about seeing everyone in red with their lockers showered with roses and chocolates. It was the one day that the students could express their deepest gratitude, appreciation and of course, their love towards their peers, significant others and teachers too. The festive colour wore by the students also set a really happy and loving mood.

The preparation for the Valentine’s Day was extremely hectic. We encountered some challenges and had a few setbacks too. First of all, we had to celebrate the event a week earlier than the actual Valentine’s Day because the grade 10s and 12s are having their mock examinations on the actual day. We wanted to make sure that every student in school was able to celebrate Valentine’s Day as it was a very much anticipated event. By pushing the date one week earlier, the event overlapped with MIAW which limited the activities we have had planned. At the beginning, the orders for roses and chocolates also came in so slowly that we thought we had overestimated the orders that we would receive. However, after tirelessly promoting it to our friends, the final orders ended up exceeding our expectations.

The day before the Valentine’s Day celebration was a really busy one. The SRC stayed back after school for hours arranging all the orders in preparation for delivery the next day. Even though it was tiring, it was really fun. On 7 February, the SRC members arrived in school early in the morning to deliver the roses to the respective recipients’ lockers. The bare lockers were decorated with colourful roses and chocolates by the time the students exited the PAT to begin their classes. That morning was one filled with smiles, giggles and laughter as the students read the notes attached to each rose and chocolates. It was really heartwarming to see everyone so happy and spreading the love.

Happy Valentine’s Day everyone!
