The Science, Maths and IL/GP Departments held the SMILe Week program last week. The activities were set-up with a view to help the students learn from experiential learning and apply what they have learnt in class in the activities. The activities done last week were:

Monday, 19 February
On Monday, grades 2-5 students were engaged in various science activities, such as Silhouette Project for grade 2, PopsBridge! Competition for grade 3, Stem Careers Festival for grade 4 and Science Investigatory Projects for grade 5 students. Students took turns to see their friends’ work and learnt some new scientific ideas at the same time.

Tuesday, 20 February
Tuesday was Maths day. Grades 1-6 students did the following Maths activities:

• Grade 1 made fruit skewer in the classrooms. They had fun cutting the fruits and making fun patterns in groups.
• Grade 2 learnt about the topic ‘Weight’ by weighing and making popcorn. Of course they had the chance to eat the yummy popping treat after that.
• Grade 3 made chocolate pudding outdoors. In groups of four, students had to prepare the ingredients, weigh them and then cook the pudding with custard and cashew nuts and canned fruits for toppings.
• After lunch time, Grades 1-3 students had fun playing various games in the game booths that were prepared by Grades 4-6 students.

Wednesday, 21 February
On Wednesday, Grades 1-6 displayed their IL/GP projects on the following topics:

• Grade 1: Learning Something New
• Grade 2: Rich Culture of Indonesia
• Grade 3: Past Civilizations
• Grade 4: Living in Indonesia
• Grade 5: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle
• Grade 6: Nuclear Power Plants

And took turns visiting other classes to see, learn and share what they have learnt.

Thursday, 22 February
House Quizzes for all Primary students in TSK Hall.
