Art Exhibition & Auction

On 2 and 3 February, Valyne and I organized an Art Exhibition & Auction for charity where parents, teachers and students could bid for artwork created by students and alumni. The exhibition was planned to run concurrently with our school production - Exodus, A Journey of Faith to make it convenient for everyone, especially parents, to view the exhibition. The idea of a charity art auction dawned on me when I was sitting for my second SRC interview. With encouragement from my school captain - Patrick, I decided to make it happen. Knowing that I couldn’t do this alone, I approached my best friend, who was also the head of the charity department - Valyne, for her help. We crafted a proposal for the Art Exhibition and Auction, and then came the long, gruesome months of editing and planning with the help of Ms Carmen. When the proposal was finally approved by Dr Lee, we announced it to the whole secondary school and we started collecting artwork. With only 15 - 20 pieces of artwork submitted by art enthusiasts, we decided to include more artwork found in the art room which were done by our alumni.

As Valyne and I have not organized such an event before, we were very nervous especially on the first day. However, Valyne, being a natural born speaker, was such an awesome salesperson who managed to persuade many visitors to view and bid for the artwork. Mr Nate was one of the lucky few who had the opportunity of having every single artwork explained to him. On the first day, our bids only managed to reach about Rp. 5 million, which was half of our target. However, by the grace of God, just before the last show for Exodus commenced, one of the parents came by and bid closed to Rp. 30 million. We were so surprised by the outcome of this event to which we eventually managed to raise Rp. 39.5 million. The funds raised would be used to buy necessities for HOME (House of Mercy) - a charity organiser based in Cilincing, founded by Dewa Klasik Alexander. The aim of HOME is to serve and educate the people in the community to create a future generation of solutions that would serve the nation regardless of their races or religion.

We would like to thank everyone for their support towards our event, especially parents, teachers and students who have contributed to this event in one way or another. We want to thank our friends who lent us a helping hand to see us through the smooth running of our event. Lastly, special thanks to Ms Carmen who helped and guided us through every problem we faced throughout this project. Thank you Dr Lee who gave us the opportunity to make this event happen too.
