The Early Childhood students enjoyed a trip to Madu Pramuka in Cibubur for their Semester 1 Learning Journey. As the students are learning about environmental awareness this quarter, Madu Pramuka was the perfect spot to explore and discover the endless benefits that honeybees have on our environment.

Upon arriving at the park, the students gathered in a large cave to watch an educational video about honey bees. Their initial fears of the small insects were quickly diminished as the video intricately explained bees’ naturally unaggressive behavior, and also detailed how smart the bee community can be! For instance, each bee plays a different role in the hive. There are scout bees, those that search for food, undertaker bees, those that act as security, among many other multifunctional job duties. Also, did you know the queen bee can lay between 600-800 eggs per day? How amazing!

After the video, the students toured the park on a nature walk while accompanied by a beekeeper. They identified how to recognize the queen bee, learned how to harvest honey, and saw the smallest bee in the world! Students were then given the opportunity to wear protective gear and interact with actual bees. Some of the EC kids even faced their fears and were brave enough to hold a giant beehive! We concluded the educational tour by enjoying a delicious honey drink and tasting honey straight from the hive.

Once we were full of bee knowledge, we had a brief snack before engaging in several outbound games aimed at enhancing our team building, fine and gross motor skills, and sportsmanship. The kids had to carefully pick up straws using chopsticks, knock over a small object while blindfolded by listening to the directions given by others, and pass a wet sponge from friend to friend while trying not to lose water, among others.

It was a bee-utiful day to discover, learn and play!
