Learning journeys can be so much fun! They count as school days, but you really forget that you are learning when you step out of the classroom and adventure on a journey. On October, 23rd 2018, our Grade 4 explored the Pusat Konservasi Tumbuhan Kebun Raya Bogor.
Its sprawling grounds in the heart of the city are ideal for an invigorating trip just like ours. As we followed the walking paths and marveled the garden, the guides enriched the team with facts. They talked about a lot of interesting plant species like those that resemble candles, sausages It also houses plants used for medicinal purposes and some ornamental plants. The huge garden is home to an interesting collection of about 14,000 species of tropical plants and trees such as the rattan, palm trees and the famous biggest flower, Rafflesia, and birds in trees! The place is large enough for us to pass an hour or so of exploring.
Then, we all went to an audio-visual room where we learned more about plants and how they can be grown and protected. The entire presentation helped the students summarize their learning and stimulated the natural curiosity in them.
The main highlight of our learning journey was our visit to the Zoological Museum. With thousands of specimens on display, the museum offers a fascinating insight into the wonders of animal life. One cannot simply ignore the gigantic skeleton of a blue whale, the well preserved rhinoceros, and a wide variety of insects and animals like birds, reptiles, mammals and a lot more.
After our final activity, we headed to the souvenir shop. We were in awe upon seeing a lot of interesting plants for sale, vegetable and flower seeds, crafts, fossils and even organic food items! The dazzling array of exotic plants and displays of animal fossils and skeletons truly made this place a nature lover’s paradise.
Our trip back to school may not have been a smooth and quick one, but most of us had a wonderful time on our first learning journey of the year. We are ready and excited for our next learning journey!
