The ACS Tennis Open, which took place from the 5th-7th October, was a huge success as players were given the unique opportunity to not only play and compete with nationally and internationally ranked players but to also learn and develop new skills in a tense competition setting.
There were a total of 87 participants in the ACS Open and out of 8 winners, 2 were from ACS. These players were Paul Jason Sutisna from Grade 5 and Kayla Zevanya from Grade 10. These two players were able to defeat both nationally ranked players and other internationally ranked players. Although it was an extremely challenging journey, with many talented players such as Kenzie (Grade 5), Adam (Grade 10) and Thomas (Grade 10) also competing, the two persevered and played to the best of their ability to achieve first place in their respective brackets.
Both of these players had to play to the best of their abilities to win. Jason's biggest challenge came during the finals. He was put up against the 1st seed but, after going through tough and challenging training over the year in CCA, which advanced his style and technique of play, Jason was able to win the finals with a score of 8-3. The same applied to Zeva, too. After a long period of time of not joining any tennis tournament, Zeva struggled to keep his mental state strong and was almost defeated numerous times. He paused for a moment and recalled all of the skills and techniques taught by Coach Surya. After this short break, his confidence quickly came back and he defeated all of his opponents with a score of 8-5, 8-0 and 8-0. Both of these players had to play to the best of their abilities to win. Jason’s biggest challenge came during the finals. He was put up against the 1st seed but, after going Zeva being only 15 years old and all his opponents being a few years older than him, it didn’t stop him from winning his age bracket.
With that, we would like to thank all of the determined ACS players who participated in this successful tournament. All of these players from the Tennis CCA group have improved over this short period of time, and we truly believe that they will be successful in the future.
