Secondary Student
Monday, 16th of July 2018, was the day every member of the secondary school community came together for the school’s highly anticipated Orientation event. Orientation 2018 consisted of three days of fun and games meant to induct the juniors and new students into our ACS family.
Organised by the Student Representative Council (SRC), this year’s Orientation theme, ACSeroth, was inspired by the common interest of many students, vis-a-vis video games. ACSeroth is a portmanteau inspired by “Azeroth”, a location in the extremely popular online game World of Warcraft, and of course our school’s name, ACS.
Just like every orientation, the students were divided into four clans: Velos, Exodia, Beast and Legion. Throughout the first twodays, all four clans fought with all their might, as they vied for the championship. Each clan had to pit their wits against the opposing teams through a series of games that kept everyone dry as a bone under the scorching sun at times, and soaking wet at other times. When the teams tied, they each had to cheer their lungs out in order to determine which team deserved to win.
Orientation ended this year on the third day with the classic GreatWar, a mass dance, and the annual Cheer Off. The Great War was a fun game that had some members from each clan “water ballooning” each other as they sought to free their respective leaders who were wrapped in tissue paper, while other clan members scavenged the school for their clan flag. The mass dance, a new edition to the Orientation programme, was also, well-received, and saw the entire school dancing in an enthusiastic unison to the beat of ‘Mama’ by Jonas Blue
Lastly, a big Cheer Off was held in the field where each clan cheered as loudly as they could, determined to grab every teacher’s attention. The atmosphere was one of immense hype, and one could feel the ACS spirit in the air. As the numbers were tallied, and the clans were ranked, the student body sat with bated breath as they wondered which clan would emerge victorious. In the end, Legion came in first, holding the title of ACSeroth’s champions, while Exodia, Beast, and Velos were respectively ranked. After Orientation ended, the OGLs commemorated all the memories they made by splashing into the pool.
Orientation 2018 enabled everyone to make new friends. Many students emerged from Orientation 2018 with new friendships. All this fun and all these bonds couldn’t have happened without the SRC’s preparation, the OGLs’ leadership, the runner’s organization, and of course, the MRC who captured all the action. Orientation 2018’s ACSeroth was certainly a hit!
