IB Diploma Programme

ACS Jakarta has been authorized by the International Baccalaureate Origanization to provide the prestigious International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) since 2007.

What is the IB Diploma Programme?

The International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme (DP) is designed as an academically challenging, balanced and assessed programme for students aged 16 to 19. It is taught over the two years and is respected by leading universities across the globe.

To earn the IB Diploma, students are required to study six subjects (at least three but nit more than four at Higher Level and the remaining three or two at Standard Level) and complete the DP Core, which broadens the students’ educational experience and provides opportunities for them to apply their knowledge and develop necessary skills. The DP Core comprises three required components:

  • Theory of Knowledge (TOK) provides a forum for discussion, reflection and instruction that considers the nature of knowledge and supports the development of interdisciplinary understanding.

  • The Extended Essay (EE) provides the opportunity to investigate an academic research question of individual interest and in the process to develop an independent research and writing skills expected for further education.

  • Creativity, Activity and Service (CAS) programme broadens the students’ educational experience by expecting them to be involved in creative, physical and service activities.

IBDP students are constantly absorbed in authentic and challenging academic work. Mathematical explorations, historical investigations, geographic fieldwork, economic commentaries, science practical works, world languages and visual and performing art exhibitions. Such learning cannot be done by memorizing facts and figures. It is accomplished by being inquisitive and taking intellectual risks; the hallmarks of 21st-century education.
