Grade 5 Singapore Experience Programme

20 April 2018

Daphne Wong Hoi Lai

Student Grade 5I

During our trip to Singapore, I learnt a lot about eco-life, conserving water, buildings and nature and even about the importance of planning ahead of time. This helped me to realise that there is more than most of us know of Singapore. Singapore has many parks to walk and exercise in. During the trip, we took a walk / nature exploration from the Southern Ridges to Hort Park. We also crossed Henderson Waves and Tree-top Walk. We were able to see greenery which we are not able to enjoy a lot here in Jakarta.

We learnt at the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) that planning is at the forefront and it leads the country to move on to greater things. This is something I can apply when I am doing a project or planning my daily to-do list. We were able to see the plan and details for every single building in Singapore.

Last and most importantly, I learnt about saving water and the Singapore’s way of reusing water. It is a very good way of reclaiming water and the reclaimed water is pure water – meaning that the water is even cleaner than the standard set for water cleanliness. We had a tour at the NEWater plant to learn about the process. We made a trip to the Marina Barrage where we can see the “border” of clean water in Singapore and sea water. Across the Marina Barrage, we could see the reservoir.

I was able to learn a lot during this trip and I can contribute as a primary school student by firstly, using less water. This means taking shorter showers. Another key skill is to be able to plan ahead of time. When there is something I need to do or if I have a lot of tasks, I can plan and manage my time and see what I should do to make my life easier.

I had a lot of fun on this trip and I hope the current Grade 4s will look forward to this trip.
